Luckily, the thirsty supporter’s plastic cup did the trick instead, with the white ball nestling safely in the vessel.
In an ‘only in Australia’ moment, the punter then ignored Stars fielder Sam Rainbird’s attempts to retrieve the ball, and waved him off.

The man then drained his beer and hammed it up for the adoring crowd before eventually returning the ball.
“He’s got it in the beer cup!” Brendon Julian cried on Fox Sports.
“What about COVID?!
“Cheers mate!
“And I’m not getting my fingers on it but I’m going to drink the beer before I give it back.
“Let me have a drink first buddy.
“Good work there, very good.”
The umpires changed the soggy ball, but commentator Mark Waugh made a good point re COVID.
“You can’t play with it so you might as well have kept it,” Waugh said.
“Alcohol, you probably don’t need the disinfectant because it landed in alcohol.
“Cleaned it.”
